Isadore Miller

Isadore Miller

Living alone and 150 miles from his daughter, son in law and granddaughters, Isadore Miller struggled with the realities of distance and busy schedules that make it difficult to stay active and involved with family. Thanks to the forethought of his daughter and her husband, Izzy moved into a spare room on the first floor of their home, which had been designed with an older person in mind.

Now, at 90, Izzy enjoys all the comforts of home and plenty of fringe benefits. Not only does he have support for his physical and medical needs, but he enjoys being part of his grandchildren's life daily, traveling, and sharing his outlook and wisdom with younger generations. Izzy has even made a special friend in the family dog! The benefits that come with multiple generations living together are shared by everyone in this family.

Mary and Joe Pantore

Mary and Joe Pantore

Mary and Joe Pantore realized that maintaining their large home was becoming too difficult after retirement, but neither wanted to move into an apartment. Their daughter, Lisa, and son in law, Mark, offered a creative solution that now has everyone in the family comfortable and happy in their own homes. The two couples sold their homes and together purchased a new duplex.

Now, Mary and Joe enjoy the benefits of living independently, yet having help when they need it. They also enjoy the privileges of being close to their family, sharing meals, babysitting, and informal family gatherings. On any given day, you might find Joe in the sandbox with his two year-old namesake, or Mary greeting the girls with an after school snack. Ask anyone in the family what is the best part of this arrangement, and each will tell you that the rich conversation and stories shared between the three generations are creating lasting impressions.
