Deane Pfeil

Deane Pfeil

When Deane and her husband considered their senior housing options, their main concern was building a home in which they could remain without having to move again. Having seen friends and family struggle with architectural designs and spaces that limited their mobility, they wanted a beautiful home that would be accessible and comfortable even as their needs changed.

"I think this house is proof that you can incorporate an awful lot of features that can make life easy until you're very, very old and even very infirm and still have a beautiful home."

Thanks to a lot of careful planning and consultation with experts, the Pfeils are enjoying a lovely, custom designed home that has the features they desired, without appearing "institutional."

Evelyn Cosco

Evelyn Cosco

Although she was facing visual impairment and having some trouble getting around her home, Evelyn could not think of giving up her home of 45 years. With stores of memories, family weekends, and familiar friends and neighbors, Evelyn was determined to maintain the freedom of living in her own home. "It's not going to get the better of me, I'm just not going to let it, that's all."

With the support of an organization where seniors help seniors with things like home repairs, lawn care, and even hanging Christmas lights, now, at 81, Evelyn has that extra set of hands that enable her to be independent at home. In this unique arrangement, seniors on both sides of the service gain the fulfillment that comes with knowing you are contributing to someone else's quality of life. "It makes me feel good, I tell you. It makes life easier for me."
